Meet Tish Buroker

Lifelong Commitment to Riverton

Tish Buroker is a life-long Riverton Resident.  She attended Riverton Elementary School and graduated from Bingham High School.  Growing up, Tish remembers when Redwood Road was only two lanes, and the total population was 3,000 people. This deep connection to Riverton’s past grounds Tish as she runs for Mayor.

After graduating from BYU and working in Provo for several years, Tish and her husband returned to Riverton to raise their kids. She is committed to ensuring that Riverton remains a great place to live and raise a family.

Tish retired after working in healthcare for thirty nine years. She has always been tasked with leading. She began as a Head Nurse for the American Red Cross and retired as a Vice President for a Fortune 500 company where she was responsible for operations in eight states with annual revenues of $80 million. Tish has been a long-time volunteer. In the 90’s she served as the Riverton parade chair before Riverton had a paid recreation department. She also served as a member of the Historical commission for several years, and on the County Community and Block Grants Program for 3 years

A Career of Leadership and Service

Taking Initiative for Riverton

After retiring, Tish volunteered with the State Court System on guardianship cases, served on the Food and Care Coalition board, and helped plan Riverton’s 2015 Sesquicentennial. She also represented Riverton on the county’s Community Development Block Grant program and served on the Riverton Historical Commission.

While walking near the Jordan River, Tish saw that the trail was overgrown, dry, and unusable. Instead of complaining, she took initiative—attending Jordan River Commission meetings and focusing on ensuring the city’s $1.2 million allocation for our portion of the Jordan River was well spent. Her efforts helped secure another $1 million in grants to improve Riverton’s section of the trail.

Tish has also taken the initiative to bring glass recycling and Wreaths Across America to Riverton.

Serving on the City Council

Tish is currently Mayor Pro Tem.

In 2017, Tish’s work on the Jordan River Trail motivated her to run for City Council. To prepare, she spent a year attending all Riverton Council meetings, as well as meetings in nearby cities to study governance and process.

She was appointed to the Mosquito Abatement Board and now serves as Vice President, where she helped develop a plan to ensure mosquito control while maintaining water in city ponds. Tish also serves on the Unified Fire Board where she is a member of the Finance Committee. She also served as chair of the Jordan River Commission. In addition she currently serves on the Intermountain Health Community Board of Trustees and chairs the Clinical Excellence Committee, a role she deeply values.

Tish was instrumental in the effort to purchase land for 1,000 new cemetery plots and brought Wreaths Across America to Riverton, now a cherished annual tradition. She was honored with a Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) award for her civic contributions.

Family Centered

Tish and her husband, Brian, have been married for 46 years and are the parents of 3 children and grandparents of 5 grandchildren. They enjoy traveling both abroad and especially to southern Utah. Tish enjoys reading books while her husband does photography. Music and the arts are an important part of their lives.
